The KG Prasada Rao - Akkineni Nageswara Rao College of Education is the sister institution of the Akkineni Nageswara Rao College, Gudivada. The Akkineni Nageswara Rao College is the result of the munificence and zeal for higher education of the people of Gudivada Taluk and of the neighbouring taluks in Krishna District lead by local visionaries consisting of Sri Parvathaneni Venkataratnam (President), Sri Kaza Venkataramaiah (Secretary), Sri Uppalapati Veerabhadra Rao (Treasurer), Sri Vemulapalli Ramabrahmam (Joint Secretary) and Sarvasri Vadde Sobhanadri, Sri Lingam Venkata Krishnaiah and Sri Upadrasta Papanna Sastry as members.

The original Degree College was formally inaugurated under the name "The Gudivada College" by Prof. V.S.Krishna, B.A., (Oxon), Ph.D. (Vienna), the Vice-Chancellor of the Andhra University, on July 6 th, 1950.

In 1960 the college moved to its present premises consisting of 23.43 acres of fertile land donated by Philanthropic villagers of Pedaparupudi and Bhushanagulla.

Sri Akkineni Nageswara Rao and the admirers gave a donation of a lakh of rupees, and the college was named as " Akkineni Nageswara Rao College ".

The Akkineni Nageswara Rao College celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1976. Sri Jalagam Vengala Rao, the then Chief Minister of A.P. was the Chief Guest of the function.

The Akkineni Nageswara Rao College celebrated its Golden Jubilee in the year 2000. Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, the then Chief Minister of A.P. was the Chief Guest of the function along with other prominent leaders of the country.

The year 1999 opened a new chapter in the history of Akkineni Nageswara Rao College Committee. Keeping up its dynamic tradition of catering to the ever increasing demand of parents and youth of Gudivada and surrounding areas for employment oriented courses, the Akkineni Nageswara Rao College Committee resolved to start a College of Education offering B.Ed. course. With the guidance of Sri Uppalapati Veerabhadra Rao, President, inspirited direction of Sri Parvathaneni Nageswara Rao, Secretary & Correspondent and the concerted and enriched efforts of Sri K.S. Appa Rao, Treasurer of the College Committee, the management could get recognition of the Govt. of A.P., the recognition of the NCTE, and affiliation of the Nagarjuna University for the Akkineni Nageswara Rao College of Education towards the end of 1999 itself, and the 1st Batch of B.Ed. student teachers were admitted. The college was formally declared open by Sri Parvathaneni Nageswara Rao, Secretary & Correspondent of the Akkineni Nageswara Rao College of Education at a function held in the Auditorium on 31-01-2000. The New College went by the name of " Akkineni Nageswara Rao College of Education", Gudivada. Sri M. Rama Mohana Rao was the Principal of the College from its inception till December, 2001. Sri C.V. Chainulu took over as principal of the college on 7th December, 2001 on the retirement of Sri M. Rama Mohana Rao.

The family of late K.G. Prasada Rao, a retired lecturer in the U.G department of chemistry of Akkineni Nageswara Rao College, Gudivada, extended substantial amount of financial support for improvement of infrastructure and academic facilities of Akkineni Nageswara Rao College of Education, Gudivada. As a measure of expressing gratitude, the Management unanimously resolved to name Akkineni Nageswara Rao College of Education, Gudivada after late K.G.Prasada Rao duly prefixing his name to the existing name of the college, i.e., "K.G. Prasada Rao - A.N.R. College of Education" Gudivada.

The Secretary, Department of Secondary Education, Govt. of A.P., Hyderabad accorded approval through Memo No.8315/Trg./A2/2005-2, Govt. of A.P., Edn. (SE-TRG) Dept., dated 28-02-2006 and the same was communicated by the Director of School Education, Govt. of A.P., Hyderabad through Procs.Rc.No.1821/N2-2/2004, dated 25-03-2006 and the Vice-Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Nagarjuna Nagar, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh accorded approval through Proc.Rc.No.ANU/Affil./S7/ANR Edn./Name Change/2006, dated 14-05-2006 for prefixing the name of "K.G. Prasada Rao" to the college and the college is renamed as "K.G. Prasada Rao - A.N.R. College of Education" with effect from the year 2005-2006.
