Dr. Siripurapu Sankar took over as Principal of Akkineni Nageswara Rao College, Gudivada, on 1st January, 2013. Previously he was Reader and In-charge of the Department of English. He is also the Member of the Academic Senate of Krishna University. He is the Chair-Person, U.G. Board of Studies for English of the Krishna University. He has been a Research Guide for Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamilnadu and Bharatidasan University, Tamilnadu.

Dr. S. Sankar did his graduation at Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada. He was the first batch student of Acharya Nagarjuna University (1976-78). He was awarded M.Phil. and Ph.D. Degrees from the same university. Dr. Sankar joined A.N.R. College on 12th November, 1979 as a Lecturer in English and has been teaching even after becoming the Principal. He has a passion for teaching and received the Best Teacher Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh in the year 2005. Dr. Sankar has been presented the “Nation Builder Award” by the Rotary Club for the year 2015. As a Research Guide he produced One Ph.D. and Fourteen M.Phil. Degrees so far.

Dr. Sankar presented and published research papers in various Seminars, Workshops and also chaired various sessions of these events. He edited the General English Text Book for First Degree Course under the CBCS pattern which is followed by the Universities in Andhra Pradesh. He wrote several monographs, prepared syllabus for the Add-on Course in English. He has been a Resource Person for Colleges and also to the Board of Intermediate Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Sankar organized one State Level Seminar on the “Impact of Privatisation of Higher Education without Government Participation” funded by the University Grants Commission in 2001. He organized a Regional Workshop on Preparation of Question Banks for I year Degree Students held on 31-3-2005. He was the Co-ordinator for the UGC Sponsored National Level Seminar on Higher Education – Realities, Challenges, Trends and Priorities held on 21st and 22nd July 2006, in A.N.R. College, Gudivada. He was the Co-ordinator for the NAAC Sponsored National Level Workshop on Benchmarking in Institutions of Higher Learning held on 22-23 January 2007 in A.N.R. College, Gudivada. As the Principal of the College he obtained grant of Rs. One Lakh from APSPD RUSA and organized a Pioneering Workshop on 27 August 2015 on “Academic Reforms – Standardizing Question Paper Setting under CBCS Pattern.”

Dr. Sankar has been a member of the Boards of Studies of various Autonomous Colleges. He also served as paper-setter for colleges and universities and has been invited to deliver Guest Lectures in various Colleges. He also handled the classes of M.A. English Course (Distance Education) of Acharya Nagarjuna University. Several poems of Dr. Sankar have been published by www.voicesnet.com. He is on the Editorial Board of Veda's Journal of English Language and Literature (JOELL). He also delivered talks on AIR and live lectures on MANA TV channel. His articles on Education have been published in College View. He was an evaluator of the performance of teachers in various institutions. He visited the Community College of Philadelphia, USA and the Oklahoma University, Norman, Oklahoma.

Dr. Sankar also served as Secretary of the Affiliated College Teachers’ Association (ACTA-AP) and in this capacity he was instrumental in representing the problems of College Teachers to the Universities and to the Government. Dr. Sankar participated in the Train a Trainer programme (Project Genesis) organized jointly by the Infosys and Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, Andhra Pradesh. He trained students after completing this programme and the students trained by him were recruited by Infosys. He was instrumental in starting a JKC in A.N.R. College on the lines of the Jawahar Knowledge Centres started by the Commisssionerate of Collegiate Education. In 2015-16 academic year he also started a Skill Development Centre (SDC) in association with APSSDC and Krishna University and organized classes for students of our College and also of the neighbouring Colleges. A good number of students trained in the SDC of our College were selected in Campus Recruitment.
